Rental House Scam

BEWARE of this scam on Craigs List!

Some of the red flags for me were:
- they did not use the insurance company's email - if it was work related, they would have emailed from work, not from two different personal email accounts.
- they did not reference any local addresses - like their new office address and the local decorator they would be working with, when I asked them.
- no response when I let them know I needed the money as a cashiers check in the exact amount of rent and security deposit, that we would have to meet them in person before renting to them and that we were having a friend in London check them out.
- THEY WERE NOT WHO THEY SAID THEY WERE!
A Huge Thank You to D and her sister T !!

If you are contacted - please let the insurance company in the UK know.

I was scammed by the same sender. Giddoen Cole used the exact language to answer an ad that I placed in Craigs List.

Thank you for posting this info. I will also call the contact at Nippon to let them know.

When we listed our apt on Craigs List we were getting all kinds of these scams. Initially, the first one we received, I believed. She said her stepfather was here in the states and would be taking card of everything for her till she got here. And said she wanted to pay additional rent, through for 6 months. I was forewarned, that this was a scam. Then after replying to her, it turned out she wouldn't call by phone. We added in our ad that we would only consider phone calls, and even mentioned in our ad that it's because of some out there trying to scam landlords. We didn't get anymore replies that appeared to be scams after that.

still going strong. I had a gut feeling about the "I am interested in your rent..." email and searched the address; found your blog post which confirmed my gut. Thanks for posting :)

Thank you for alerting us Landlords about this Scam. I knew posting on Craigs List is like taking a risk; however, we were disperate for tenants. I also had Red Flags due to the fact that this "prospective tenant" is a foreigner and wanted to rent the place without looking for it.
